HanLin eBook is a DRM-free alternative to Sony Librie from a Chinese manufacturer Jinke running on Linux OS and based on eInk/ePaper technology. A couple of weeks ago, eInk began offering the Electronic Paper Display Prototyping Kit that includes a 6-inch electronic paper display, Linux system and Bluetooth, USB and hookups for I/O. Early last month, Philips subsidiary Polymer Vision NV said it would demonstrate a handheld device with a roll-out electronic display.
