Washington Post says advertisers are becoming worried about the upcoming Internet Explorer 8 and its "porn mode" for cookieless browsing called InPrivate.  Details from Microsoft:

"While InPrivate Browsing is active, the following takes place:
  • New cookies are not stored
    • All new cookies become “session” cookies
    • Existing cookies can still be read
    • The new DOM storage feature behaves the same way
  • New history entries will not be recorded
  • New temporary Internet files will be deleted after the Private Browsing window is closed
  • Form data is not stored
  • Passwords are not stored
  • Addresses typed into the address bar are not stored
  • Queries entered into the search box are not stored
  • Visited links will not be stored."

  1. What's new?
You can disable third party cookies in IE and FF now. Or you can control what domains can run JavaScript in your browser and forget about seeing those stupid ads altogether. Unless they are embedded like BaliWho on your site :-)

  2. With InPrivate, even people who have no idea what cookies are can disable them in one click. I think that's the difference.

  3. And that's good. Long overdue. This total tracking is a bit too much knowledge in one's hands.

I think I'm getting too liberal in my thinking and post too many comments. Ban me for a week! :-)

  4. Not a good idea killing adds, most of the content we see on the web is free because of them.
