Why? (Also, a bloodier "during" picture, and icon's history.) And it's not like it's an isolated incident -- here's more, more, and more. Or, say, Campbell Soup? Also, assorted food tats on Flickr and here, and Rachel Ray, too. Wtf?
Update [Feb 11 '09] - One of the Morton Salt tat owners speaks up (in comments to this post):
"i got the morton's salt girl tattoo because it was used by one of my favorite bands, jawbreaker, with the tagline "when it pains, it roars." i wouldn't normally get a brand logo tattoo."
A few days ago: "Invisible" Black Light Tattoos
I'm usually not a tat fan, but the "when it rains, it pours" visual statement seems to work as an expression of a world view. Overall, though, I'm reminded of some study I read a while ago about the willingness of youth to define their identities by brands, which I find a little spooky. I'm a Listerine® with a Pop Tarts® rising myself.
ReplyDeleteI can understand a tat of Harley or even iPod, but a salt brand? (I do love the logo, though).
ReplyDeleteAny chance you can remember more about that study? Would love to find it.
dat tattoo is pretty cute... i would sugget my gf this one.. thanx buddy

ReplyDeleteI love your tat. I'm going to get her also. I'm getting her because I'm a Chef and salt is so important in cooking. I think it's the best way to symbolize salt. And, she's so cute!
ReplyDeletehell yeah
ReplyDeleteThere is also more symbolism in the phrase meaning for people who've had a lot of Crap happen in their life. When my father died it seemed like it created a huge domino effect that made me think when bad shit happens, a lot of it happens in my life. Further, when good things happen, it spurs many other positive things to pour out as well. I think there's more meaning in that expression than than the actual salt. Getting the tat just for the salt is mediocre, but understanding the phrase in its relationship with life is ground for props. When it rains, it pours, as with life.
