Wireless Power Lightens Up Cereal Boxes

"eCoupled intelligent wireless power is so flexible it can actually be printed directly onto packaging. A low-cost enhancement to product packaging, printed coils allow real-time communication from the package to the store shelf, and then to the store’s inventory management system. Product quantities can be identified and tracked, expiration dates monitored, and new stock automatically ordered when supplies are low to help reduce lost sales."

  1. Wow that is so cool. I would buy the cereal just for the lights to see how long they would keep going.

  2. I guess I must be getting old, because I'm sorry--all this tech to move a few more boxes of a processed, chemical-laden, cost-engineered and overpriced product (sorry, that's the reality of cereal)--it makes me ill.

  3. @Anonymous: How about music records they were building into cereal boxes in the 70s? http://bit.ly/hougR3

  4. Personally, the high point of cereal advertising, for me, was the treasure map put out by Cap'n Crunch in the '80s. I remember reading that thing for hours, imagining what type of adventures might await on the island.

  6. Very cool! love the Idea of Electroluminescent battery powered translucent plastic packaging.

I'm all for innovation, but only if it makes the product better, more affordable, or better for our mass consuming future.

Is it sustainable? With batteries and all that extra copper wire, How much will it cost them to put that in to production? I can barley afford the $5 for my morning sugar fix with no toy and no games on the back.
